Submission Guidelines (as of February 2008)

Dear Author:

We publish only *HIP HOP urban fiction. Writers familiar with what we have published in the past will know what sort of material we are most likely to publish in the future: powerful plots with solid urban and hip hop cultural underpinnings are the ONLY manuscripts selected for consideration for Triple Crown submissions. As for street culture, any personal biography must be both rigorously coherent and integral to the plot, and overall the work must at least strive for originality.

Those manuscripts which survive the "first cut" as outlined above are then judged primarily on plot, characterization and whether or not they are marketable from Triple Crown’s perspective.

Style: Simple is generally better; in our opinion good style, like good breeding, never calls attention to itself.

Payment rates: Very competitive.

Preferred length: The entire manuscript accompanied by a synopsis and cover letter.

Submission procedures: Please note that we require the entire manuscript accompanied by a synopsis and cover letter.  Your submission must include your name, e-mail address, postal mailing address and telephone number on both your cover letter and the first page of the manuscript. We prefer not to see simultaneous submissions.

Title, author (last name only is OK), and page number at the top of each page are mandatory. Include your name, mailing address and telephone number on the first page.

Manuscripts must be typed and double spaced. Minimal formatting, please. Indent paragraphs; center chapter headers and scene break indicators (###, ***, etc.); use page breaks only at the end of chapters. Use a standard, size 12 font only.  Margins should be 1 inch all around. Make it readable, or we won't read it.  Manuscripts should be bound – a simple spiral or comb binder is ideal.

Always keep a copy of your submission. We cannot return any submissions. To better ensure that your manuscript arrives at our office, ship with a delivery confirmation. Your local post office/other mail carrier can provide more information on delivery confirmation.

As we receive several submissions daily, please allow a minimum of one to two months for your manuscript to be reviewed.
